1. Students had today's block to review and prepare for the poetry unit test.
Monday, Jan 9th:
1. Vocab quiz. No more W's OTD!
2. Discussion of "Stand Alone Text" criteria. We then reread "The Dumka" and reviewed several examples of student writing to determine what each level looks like. Go here for all info.
3. Students then had 45 minutes to complete the stand alone task, using one of the questions below:
Friday, Jan 6th:
1. WOTD: nostalgic, decorum
2. Review of yesterday's poems. We will discuss Sonnet 12 on Tuesday.
3. We viewed and discussed the various elements of this powerpoint.
4. Students worked together to complete this analysis of "Amor Mundi" by Christina Rossetti. Here is a link to the poem.
Homework: reread each poem we have studied (you don't have to do the Billy Collins ones).
Ensure your questions are fully answered. Think carefully about your answers. Annotate the poems for meaning, and find the figurative language/sound devices/comparisons at work.
Thursday, Jan 5th:
1. WOTD: encroach
2. Silent Reading
3. Review and discussion of poems from yesterday.
3. The Pastoral and the Sonnet: view this powerpoint and take notes as needed.
4. Read the poems in this packet and complete tasks as laid out here.
We also discussed the timeline for the rest of the course. You will be submitting evidence of your work from the poetry unit, completing a written response on Monday and a unit test on Wednesday. The rest of the course will be preparation for the Provincial which is January 24th at 9 am.

3. View this powerpoint and take notes in your booklet.
4. Read "Deathfugue" and then answer questions.
5. Read "Ode to the West Wind" and answer questions.
Submit draft of poem response from yesterday.

4. Billy Collins poems: we read these together, then watched this TED talk from Billy Collins about the poems.
5. Students had 20 minutes to begin writing a personal response to one of the poems, in the style of the sample provided. This is due tomorrow, in rough form.

- Discuss the persuasive techniques demonstrated in "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love" by Christopher Marlowe.
- Assess the speaker's attitude towards the passage of time in "Sonnet 12".
- Explore the meaning and impact of the extended metaphor used in "Amor Mundi."
